Finished
It certainly LOOKS like takoyaki... It’s actually ... wait for it ... a profiterole, with the “mayonnaise” topping made of chocolate sauce and whipped cream! The katsuobushi and aonori trimmings you normally see on takoyaki are also made out of confectionery! There’s no way you would have guessed that just looking at them!
Sky Buffet 51, the main restaurant on the top floor of Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower, allows you to look out over a dynamic cityscape from 200 meters above the ground. Its lunch and dinner buffets boast a menu of more than 80 dishes of both Japanese and western cuisine made with seasonal ingredients, and this fall will play host a grand prank, with seven different kinds of “trick food”. A perfect fit for Osaka, renowned throughout Japan as both the capital of cuisine and the holy land of humor! * Some items will begin advance sales on August 20 (Monday).
Elegant nigiri-zushi! ... Wait ... No ... the rice is chewy mochi rice and white bean curd!
And those toppings ... they’re ... sweets made from things like tapioca and jelly! Wow! That’s quite a mental leap between what it looks like and what it tastes like; we hope you’ll have fun with it!
They have to be gyoza. They have to! But no. They’re not. They’re sweet potato paste wrapped in sweet glutinous gyuhi rice and lightly grilled with a blowtorch. They’re the perfect sweets!
